Dragon Queen — Brett Branning artwork

Dragon Queen

In the realms that border the Shadowlands, where the sun dares not linger and the depths weave their intricate dance across barren lands, there reigns a queen of formidable spirit and powers. A dragon queen who bears the weight of her existence with a stoic resolve that rivals the unforgiving landscapes that surround her.

This queen of fire and air, known as Lysandra, rules over an increasingly desolate kingdom where whispers of past glories resonate in the caverns of memory. Her realm, now veiled in perpetual twilight, where hope flickers as faintly as a dying ember, was once one of the shining beacons of hope and light before the Shattered Eye sundered the world. Standing resolute in her solitude, her majestic beasts coil amidst the ruins, her eyes reflecting the silent resignation that echoes within the intricacies of her being.

In the days of yore, legends spoke of a time when her wings bore the radiant hues of sunrise, and her breath painted the heavens with vibrant flames that danced in harmony with the winds, holding evils at bay. But time, like an unyielding adversary, had weathered her once vibrant mind, bestowing upon her a visage that mirrored the desolation that had encroached upon her kingdom. For centuries, she ruled not for the sake of conquest or dominion, for she knew the transience of power in the vast expanse of eternity, but the taint that has grown around her kingdom has also been slowly growing inside of her heart. Where her true allegiances now lay is a hotly debated topic in the untouched lands to the south. Whatever the outcome of her many folded decisions, no one denies that she has the power and resources to tilt the tides of the great battles to come in either direction.

Nowadays, her subjects gaze upon her with reverence and fear. They whisper tales of her past glories, tales that seem as distant as the fires that adorn the night sky. Yet, amidst their murmurs, hope still trembles and quivers in their voices. Their history is rich and riddled with acts of bravery and heroism that still yearn to be birthed again.
